LIYL: Flying Lotus, XXYXX

"Carving Away The Clay impresses upon the idea of an ongoing process in which raw material is stripped off of anything superfluous or impeding until the essential parts of ourselves are exposed. It is a never ending process of striving for perfection in all areas of life."

..Could I have said it any better?
Absolutely not.

I will add one thing though:

The songs flow in a serpentine motion in my head.
Dizzying, but in a sort of hypnotic way.

Best consumed with your eyes closed.
3 AM.

P.S- The synth solo in "Lonely Town" reminds me of what Rick Wright might've played back in the day.

Lefty

LIYL: NaS, Gangstarr, Mos Def, and Canibus (The rapper and the plant)

Robert Lefkowitz (Lefty)
is
on
his
grind.

It was a late Saturday night when Lefty came stumbling into my house wearing the familiar garments of a chasidic jew.
He shook my hand,
congratulated us both on making it through the long weekend and told me of his plan.
He raised his plastic cup filled with what ever we were drinking and exclaimed
"Im gonna make one new song everyday for the rest of my life"
We both giggled and clicked our cups together.
So he started with that. Just an idea.
But its already blossomed into so much more.

Lefty is the product of a generation that holds only influence.
Like few before him, he builds static towers of lyrical narratives through truth and inspiration.
He focuses on death, as if it were just a shadow of the sun shining through the branches of an old tree.
But as witty as he might be with his metaphors, it doesn't hold a candle to what people actually enjoy about his music.
what we enjoy most, is how his lyrical complexity coincides with his long range of emotions.
Through self-exploration, Lefty found something that most people dare to dream about finding.
With one ear to his heart, and the other ear to the blistering concrete streets of New Jersey,
Lefty found truth in music by finding truth in himself.
The only problem I have with any of this, is that I shouldn't have to color in the lines of something that is already so vibrant and kaleidoscopic.
People should find this out for themselves.
They should uncover all of Lefty's brilliance like I did.
By realizing there is more to life than its ups and downs.
Life is about experience.
Life is about how hard you push against the winds.
But people never seem to understand this.
They overlook this, like they overlook the artwork that stains the tall sky scrapers of New York City.
Passing right by, never taking a second to realize what's in front of their faces.

And as sure as I am that everyone will love Lefty and everything he's come out with,
I know he will stick with me through thick, thin, and thinner.
Because thats what best friends do.

This song plays tribute to our beloved friend Raymar.
He who lives by the gun, dies by the gun---12/31/12--
REST IN PEACE.
You are forever.

The Last Emperor

Bare with me here..

This is one of the most lyrically complex tracks ive ever heard..
The Last Emperor actually made my jaw drop.
The song is about
super heroes (and every other Marvel character)
having a rap battle against all of the kings of Hip Hop.

Give it a listen.
Even if you dont like, it needed to be here.
But i cant imagine you (or anyone) not liking it.

Chill Bump

Find.
Play.
Repeat.

Their group name tries to evoke the dancer in you.
But, its the song itself that does the trick.

"Pure rap music aint made under pressure"

Dizraeli and The Small Gods

LIYL: Anything catchy.

"Dizraeli and the Small Gods are a 7 piece band from England, playing a folked, melodic, unashamedly heartfelt reinvention of hip-hop."

(old) Eminem

Lets take a step back and remember what the man looked like before he stuck "9 inch nails through each one of his eyelids"

His style was ripped off from AZ
But thats okay.
We've all come to the conclusion that music is nothing but one big recycled idea.
and once again- thats okay.

But Eminem--
when he was still called Marshall--
understood Hip Hop.
Sure he's white, but I wont deny that Hip Hop is flooding through his veins.
Because it does.
And while I admit some of his new material is still catchy... it is too disgusting to listen to more than once over.

Maybe im just passed all that as a listener,
I just cant bare to hear Eminem kill Kim and shove her in the boot of his car one more time.
I just cant do it.
I need some real level sh!t

Thankfully, Eminem's catalogue is big enough- if you know where to look.
You can always find a gem.
So,
hailing from the first album,
and for the first time,
Marshall Mathers actually believes that everything will be okay.

Ugress

He would call it "Cinematic electonica for the darkness of silver screens and dancefloors"
...I call it "TRONmusik"

... Best consumed at a black-light party tripping on a substantial amount of magic mushrooms.
..It is what it is..

Pick up his album here >>> Bandcamp

Jeff Bernat

LIYL: Scuba Steve, Outkast, and J Dilla

Jeff Bernat's new album is called "A Gentleman Approach" ...

...And thats exactly what it is.

Soulful hip-hop.
The man understands what it's like to go around back, hop the fence, and enter,
rather than going in through the front door..

Home Brew

"Home brew are a smooth, refreshing ale that will make you feel golden and moist inside just like you did before big kid pants. They have a distinct feel-good sound and sincere lyricism that's relevant to New Zealand culture, and their live act is so well executed you can barely tell that they have major substance abuse issues"

.....Sitting alone in your room with a bottle of whiskey, never felt so damn right.
