Check out Justin Vernon's latest side project, Shouting Matches. While the album marks one of the few occasions Vernon sings in a lower-than expected register, you can count on this being a refreshing change. With the accompaniment of Brian Moen and Phil Cook, each track is structured with a wide array of influences somehow sharing a single heartbeat.
LIYL: Modest Mouse, Tv on the Radio, The Kinks, and Arctic Monkeys
While searching amongst the endless list of unknown bands on Bandcamp,
I found something worth listening to.
Its amazing how much crap music there is in the world. And all in one place might I add.
Like all the shitty musicians got together and said lets make the listeners ear's bleed.
But, good music always floats upward.
Turning shit into gold. Alchemy.
This has been on repeat ever since I discovered it on Bandcamp.
Trevor Menear writes for no one.
He's making music for pure consumption... Music for the open hearted.
His blues is so thick, you can cut it in half with your finger nail.
The album varies from the strong whole-hearted rock,
to a light acoustic pizzicato (or "Picasso" to some know-it-all hipsters)
I think its the organic sound that keeps pulling me back in..
(And that im totally sick of listening to the Black Keys)
LIYL: The Shins, Flaming Lips, My Morning Jacket, and Local Natives
Their new album doesn't do them justice.
..I remember trudging through fields of snow or sitting on my windowsill letting my feet dangle, to the jingle jangle sounds of "Band Of Horses".
There was a certain sense of tender heartedness apparent in their sound.
A certain sense of cluelessness, but every bit of knowledge as to how to make it sound like it was the correct way to live.
Whether it be the loud crunch of the guitar I hadn't heard before, or the swelling high pitched vocals of Ben Bridwell ive come to love and memorize. Every new listen, I discovered something new.
..And thats what we look for in a band, isn't it?
Self discovery.
