Lefty

LIYL: NaS, Gangstarr, Mos Def, and Canibus (The rapper and the plant)

Robert Lefkowitz (Lefty)
is
on
his
grind.

It was a late Saturday night when Lefty came stumbling into my house wearing the familiar garments of a chasidic jew.
He shook my hand,
congratulated us both on making it through the long weekend and told me of his plan.
He raised his plastic cup filled with what ever we were drinking and exclaimed
"Im gonna make one new song everyday for the rest of my life"
We both giggled and clicked our cups together.
So he started with that. Just an idea.
But its already blossomed into so much more.

Lefty is the product of a generation that holds only influence.
Like few before him, he builds static towers of lyrical narratives through truth and inspiration.
He focuses on death, as if it were just a shadow of the sun shining through the branches of an old tree.
But as witty as he might be with his metaphors, it doesn't hold a candle to what people actually enjoy about his music.
what we enjoy most, is how his lyrical complexity coincides with his long range of emotions.
Through self-exploration, Lefty found something that most people dare to dream about finding.
With one ear to his heart, and the other ear to the blistering concrete streets of New Jersey,
Lefty found truth in music by finding truth in himself.
The only problem I have with any of this, is that I shouldn't have to color in the lines of something that is already so vibrant and kaleidoscopic.
People should find this out for themselves.
They should uncover all of Lefty's brilliance like I did.
By realizing there is more to life than its ups and downs.
Life is about experience.
Life is about how hard you push against the winds.
But people never seem to understand this.
They overlook this, like they overlook the artwork that stains the tall sky scrapers of New York City.
Passing right by, never taking a second to realize what's in front of their faces.

And as sure as I am that everyone will love Lefty and everything he's come out with,
I know he will stick with me through thick, thin, and thinner.
Because thats what best friends do.

Feel Flows~

This song plays tribute to our beloved friend Raymar.
He who lives by the gun, dies by the gun---12/31/12--
REST IN PEACE.
You are forever.
